Resources for County Employees > Paid Emergency Leave

The County of Los Angeles (County) is sensitive to the devastating impact of the recent wildfires on our entire community, including the tremendous losses suffered by members of our own County family. Accordingly, the Chief Executive Officer has authorized the implementation of Los Angeles County Code Section 6.12.030 – Disaster Employment, to provide paid leave for County employees directly impacted by the January 2025 Wildfires, subject to ratification by the Board of Supervisors.
Under the January 2025 Wildfire Leave, the County will grant up to 80 hours of paid leave for eligible full-time permanent employees. Eligible part-time employees will receive up to 40 hours of paid leave. This leave applies to eligible and active permanent, temporary, recurrent, and part-time staff, who were employed by the County on or before January 7, 2025.
Employees may use this leave if they were/are unable to work for qualifying reasons, including official emergency displacement; substantial damage to or loss of or impact to their residence; or the employee’s own disaster-related illness or injury. The leave applies to absences from January 7, 2025, through December 31, 2025, and will be paid at the employee’s regular rate of pay. The leave may be applied retroactively to qualifying absences occurring on or after January 7, 2025.
