DISASTER SERVICE WORKER PROGRAM

Protecting the public health and well-being of County residents is a top priority.  During emergency events, County employees may be called to act as Disaster Service Workers (DSW) to better meet the needs of the community and ensure the continuity of essential services.

Employees are encouraged to review the information and resources available to learn more about the role of County employees during emergencies and disasters and learn emergency preparedness tips for themselves and their families.

Our Los Angeles County employees have always responded willingly to any emergency or disaster. On behalf of the Department of Human Resources, thank you to all our employees who work hard every day, blue skies and grey skies, to support the residents of Los Angeles County.

Together we are building a stronger, safer, and more resilient community.

ABOUT US

The Los Angeles County Disaster Service Worker (DSW) Program was developed jointly by the Chief Executive Office (CEO), Office of Emergency Management (OEM) and the Department of Human Resources (DHR).

As established by California state code, public employees, such as Los Angeles County employees, may be deployed to assume the role of a DSW in response to an emergency need. Their deployment helps with the protection of lives and property and helps mitigate the effects of a disaster.

As a DSW, County employees may be called upon to provide managerial, logistical and hands-on support for County departments and/or emergency organizations providing essential services.

The Los Angeles County Disaster Service Worker program exists to ensure county departments and staff are prepared to meet their State-mandated responsibility to serve as a DSW in times of community need and crisis. During an emergency or disaster, the DSW Program works with the Office of Emergency Management and all County Departments to ensure DSWs are efficiently deployed where needed.
