MENTAL HEALTH RESOURCES: If you are feeling overwhelmed or distressed due to the fires, mental health support is available at Local Assistance Centers. You can also call or text the Disaster Distress Helpline at 1-800-985-5990, available 24/7, for free crisis counseling.

MISFORTUNE AND CALAMITY TAX RELIEF: You may be eligible for tax relief if your property is damaged or destroyed by a calamity, such as fire or flooding. To qualify, you must file an Application for Reassessment: Property Damaged or Destroyed by Misfortune or Calamity (M&C) Form ADS-820 with the Assessor’s Office within 12 months from the date the property was damaged or destroyed. The loss must exceed $10,000 of current market value. For questions or to submit an M&C claim, please call 213-974-8658.

PERSONAL RECORDS ASSISTANCE: Los Angeles County residents can request property and vital records (e.g., birth, death, marriage certificates) at no charge to aid in recovery efforts. To request vital records, call 800-201-8999 and select Option 1, then Option 2, or email recorder@rrcc.lacounty.gov for assistance.

UNLAWFUL PRICE GOUGING: Rent or other items cannot be marked up by more than 10%. To report any rent or price gouging, contact local law enforcement or file a price gouging complaint using the Los Angeles County Department of Consumer and Business Affairs’ online complaint reporting tool. There, you can report the location of the incident and upload documents directly to DCBA’s investigators for follow-up. You can also reach the Department by phone at 800-593-8222.
