Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19)

Medical Plan Updates: 04/19/2021

Kaiser Permanente (Kaiser):

  • As recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration, Kaiser is pausing use of the Johnson & Johnson (J&J) COVID-19 vaccine. The pause is expected to decrease vaccine supply and number of vaccine appointments offered.
    • Members who received the J&J COVID-19 vaccine and developed severe headaches, abdominal pain, leg pain, or shortness of breath, within 3 weeks after the vaccination, should contact Kaiser’s advice line at 1-833-574-2273.

  • Beginning April 15, 2021, individuals ages 16 and older became eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccination. At this time, Kaiser is only able to deliver 500,000 vaccine doses per week (69% of the allowed capacity). Additionally, California will receive approximately 20% few vaccine doses in the coming weeks. As a result, there will be a limited number of vaccination appointments available in the month of April.

  • Kaiser reminded members of the different ways to sign up for the COVID-19 vaccination:
    • Request an appointment at Kaiser Permanente (org/covidvaccine)
    • Find an appointment on ca.gov
    • Contact your local pharmacy
